Yeah, yeah, I know I’ve posted about my Road Trip 2007 before, but I can’t get it out of my system. I’m working (still) on my photobook on Blurb and hope to have it finished before I leave for this summer’s road trip. We’ve only been back from the trip for 6 months.
Here are a few of my favorite shots from along the way…
Outside of Pittsburgh, PA at the Monroeville Mall you will find a play area dedicated to P-burgh native Mr. Fred Rogers. (It’s an oversized model of The Land of Makebelieve with King Friday and Lady Elaine!!)
In Portage, Wisconsin you can find the world’s only (I think!) drive up popcorn stand: Craig’s! We actually drove past it but I had to double back because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Those are actual cars and patrons at a drive through for POPCORN! Only in Wisconsin.
While driving through the mind-numbingly long state that is South Dakota, don’t forget to stop by The Mitchell Corn Palace! (I’m from New Jersey, so any state longer than 3 hours is virtually unfathomable…)
This guy was right outside my window as we were driving to the north exit of Yellowstone. He tried to hitch a ride to the coast, but we turned him down.
Need I say anything? We had a blast!
About a million years ago, I was watching a travel show on tv and saw a feature on The Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, CA. The memory of this show stayed with me for the last ten years and I always wanted to check this place out. Let me tell you, it was unbelieveable. Husbandito and I still reel with mirth when we think back upon it. This shot is of the restaurant area. Everything is pink and gold!
This was on the ride home, right outside of Amarillo, TX. Husbandito refused to get out of the car and trek the 100 yards out into the dusty desert to get a closer look. I couldn’t resist! I didn’t even know what this place was until I got home and googled it–Cadillac Ranch!
So, these are just a small smattering of the hundreds upon hundreds of pictures we took. Somehow I have to put them all into a photobook and it’s not going so well. I’m having a hard time ‘culling the herd.’

AWESOME PIX. Looks like you & -dito hit all the highlights. I’m so glad you survived – that restaurant looks scary as hell.
We’re planning a cross-country road trip right now. Can’t wait!
Great post. Hubby & I are planning our 2008 road trip now, and South Dakota is our destination. I’d never heard of the Corn Palace before and I believe it is on the list. I also just discovered Blurb, and while I made my 2007 trip with MyPublisher, I am much happier with the Blurb templates/choices. (and they seem to run about the same in pricing!) Anyway, I love to read about other people’s road trips… and enjoyed yours!
