On Wednesday, I filled my toy car’s gas tank for $23.00–gas was $3.06 a gallon and my tank was down to 1/4 full. I get about 35 highway miles to the gallon, have an 11 gallon tank, and have done some serious driving in the last few days which necessitated another fill-up last night.
I returned at the same station and was shocked to see that the price had shot up to $3.18 a gallon. 12 cents in 2 days?!? I paid $31.00 dollars to fill up!! It’s a travesty! Perhaps the gas station attendants should don bandannas over their mouths when they rob me–it will make it more legitimate.
Yes, dear readers, here in Jersey the gas stations are manned by attendants who pump the gas for you–no getting out of the vehicle allowed–it’s unlawful to pump your own gas. I guess they are afraid we’ll fill up and speed off…good call on their part.
So after being robbed, I started paying attention to the other gas stations on the roads. The average price was $3.25 a gallon. This does not bode well for my summer road trip out to Texas and back.
New Jersey has the lowest gas prices in the nation, so I can’t stand the thought of what some of you guys are paying. But just out of morbid curiosity, how much are YOU paying for a gallon of gas in your neck of the woods?

I filled up at a modest $3.51.
Yesterday, it was $3.57.
The gouging places are up around $3.70
Thanks New York State!
DUDE!! It’s $3.65 in the Chicago suburbs, at the “good” stations and $3.75 to $3.80 at the gougers. ARGH!!
We’re up to 3 Eighty-something here in Southern California! I’m afraid to drive anywhere!
I’m just glad I live where the gas is cheap like you, CGW. I think we’re about the only ‘full service’ state left, as well as having the cheapest gas.
I went to Pennsylvania recently and sat at the gas pumps for 5 minutes before someone who worked there came out and asked if I were okay, or would I like to hurry up and pump some damn gas…
CWG says: yep, only NJ and OR are full-service…everywhere else it’s every man, woman and child for him/herself.
$3.89 yesterday in Orange County, CA. It’s crazy.
Full service??? Hahahahahahaha Haven’t seen one of those in a LONG time. Although my friend lives in Portland and everything is full service there.
In Glasgow (Scotland) area petrol is £1.06 per litre….so think yourelves lucky….and we have the North Sea on our doorstep!
Might want to check out http://newjerseygasprices.com/
Also, New Jersey has some of the lowest gas taxes in the country. Offsets the property taxes?
Well.. diesel for the truck is $4.37. Just shoot me and put me out of my pain!
wow, you guys are still pretty decent. We’re around $3.80ish in LA
We are paying 3.65 here in Wisconsin…not fun.
i suppose i should keep my complaints to a minimum after reading these comments. $3.18 sounds like a veritable bargain now…
I live in Japan and people are laughing because gas is 130 yen a litre (roughly $5.20 U.S. a gallon). The government forgot to renew some taxation law, so it’s a big price fall from the regular $6 U.S. a gallon people usually pay. But sadly it will jump back up in May
it’s $4.20 a gallon in South Orange County, Ca.
We’re doomed.
[...] 31, 2008 by curlywurlygurly On April 19th, I posted about the gas prices here in Jersey. I heard from people near and far on the topic, and [...]
Gas in Ventura CA is $4.45 per Gallon
Why doesnt anyone ask why do-nothing Pelosi hasnt fulfilled her promise of lowering gas prices? Too busy jet-setting around the globe on her private airplane whining about a hoax called global warming.
