Memphis is a blast! We rolled into town yesterday afternoon and at the first sight of an operational street-car, I was taken with this city. We’re staying in a great little pied-a-tere in the heart of downtown and are close to everything.
In true CWG and Husban-dito fashion, the first thing we checked out in Memphis was the food. We navigated through the streets to the east side of Memphis and a restaurant called The Beauty Shop. This place was a scream! It’s a former beauty salon dating back to who knows when that has great local food and charm galore! Yes, those are actual hair dryers being used as seating. Love this place!
After dinner we drove all over the city to get our bearings. The Mississippi is truly something. We also wandered down to the Lorraine Motel which is where Martin Luther King Jr. was assasinated. It was sobering and eerie because they preserved the hotel and vehicles exactly as they were in 1968. We’re going to tour the Civil Rights Museum during our stay. There’s plenty to see here and we’re short on time, so I’m off to see the sights!

I am glad you are having fun. See you in a few days!!!!!!
You are right, Memphis is a blast! I was there for the first time last year, and loved it! I unfortunately did not get to see the Lorraine Motel, but next time I go, that is the first stop.
The Peabody is a great place to go, watch the ducks walk!
Of course, Graceland is a must, even if you aren’t a great Elvis fan, it is amazing to see!
Wasn’t the Mississippi kind of brown?
I’m still following your trip and it sounds like fun! Are the gas prices killing you? Are you going to Graceland? I would love to visit the home of the King.
sounds like you are finding some hidden treasures of memphis. the last (& only) time i was in memphis while we were on a cross country drive from north carolina to arizona. our visit of memphis lasted less than 24hrs and consisted of elvis, memphis nachos (nachos with bbq meat), the mlk museum/hotel (it was closed. total bummer.), and a REALLY BAD motel! even our short time there was enough to get the feeling there was so much more to see! have fun!
I like the hair dryer chairs!
It sounds like you and hubandito are having a great time
I’ll have travel in the US sometime – I haven’t seen very much of the States at all.
Lovely to hear of your personal comments about places that we in Scotland only know of in atlasses, and songs….keep on keeping us up to date…..and safe driving
Be sure to get some BBQ – Interstate or Neely’s!!
Go to Buhl Street (spelling?) in the evening. It is cool! Street performers.. lots of little cafe’s.
My hubby is in Nashville this week… I’ve been to Memphis quite a bit for some big barrel races. TN is the place I want to “retire” to someday.
Hope your having fun!!
Beale?
It is probably Beale… lol I just know how to pronounce it- not spell the street name.
Agreed. Memphis is amazing! Hopefully I get back there soon. Enjoy your trip!
