Of late, I’ve had an opportunity to watch numerous Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune episodes. As a result, I’ve been struggling to answer an age-old question: Which game show host is more grating: Alex Trebek or Pat Sajak?
Is it Alex Trebek’s simpering smile and snide, slightly Canadian “Oh, sorry!”’s when a contestant guesses the wrong answer? Or is it Pat Sajak’s snarky comments and bouffant hairdo? Let’s take a closer look.
I get annoyed with Alex and his mincing ways–especially when he pretends that he KNOWS all the answers to every question. He’s always like, “Ohh, sooorry. The correct answer is King Qvieosk Phzllskdkksl of the Srytrpkstriptian Empire.
And one more thing; Alex, if you’re reading this: Grow your mustache back. And stop the spray tanning.
Wheel of Fortune, or “That Letters Game” as my dad refers to it, is “meh”. Ever since they stopped “shopping” and Vanna stopped turning the letters, my interest waned. Didn’t Merv Griffin realize that the real draw to the show was the shopping and the “Spotted Dalmatian”?!
(If you, like my family, have no idea what I’m talking about, in the old days there were only 3 rounds on WOF. After each round, the contest would SHOP in various “rooms” with his/her winnings. There were sofas, televisions, luggage, lamps, and more depending on the “room” he/she was shopping in. My mum and sister said this never happened.)
Pat Sajak always seems a bit pissed off with the contestants, his hair, or maybe just his job. I don’t know, is it me? Am I reading him wrong? It was more fun in the 80s when he got all “handsy” with the ladies–patting them and hugging them–watching them desperately squirm away from his roving paws–the height of hilarity.
But I have veered dangerously from the topic at hand, so let’s regroup: Who is the more annoying game show host? Can you help me here?

You leave Trebek alone! If only because the Trebek/Sean Connery SNL skits were HILARIOUS.
OMG! Must I really chose?? Cue the Jeopardy music…now THAT is anyoying! And, yes, I do remember when the contestants shopped on WOF. Those were the days when it was fun to watch the contestants shop for over-priced crap they didn’t really want anyway. And most of that stuff was U-G-L-Y!
Ok, ok…if I must choose it would be Alex. Yes, definitely Alex. Have you ever seen anyone more plastic than Elex? I mean, is he married to the living Barbie Doll? For those of you who don’t know who I’m talking about, she is Cindy Jackson — the Queen of plastic surgery. She even has her own web site hawking her miracle beauty products. I digress…
Anyway, I find Alex FAR more annoying than Pat. Although Pat is pretty annoying too. Goodness…do I really have to choose?
I heart Trebek.
He does what he is supposed to do. Host. And pretend to care that Alissa from San Diego is a dog groomer.
Sejak, meh. It’s got to be the hair.
I find him more condescending then Trebek…
Sajak. Hands down. He is so unfunny. At least Trebek doesn’t think he’s funny.
I don’t care for either Pat or Alex.
BUT I LOVED RICHARD DAWSON on Family Feud!!!!
He always seemed tanked. And super fun. A+
Sajak’s stupid comments make him win this one for me. I’m constantly telling my husband if Pat would only shut up, it would be a really great show.
ps, I was on Family Feud about 18 years ago when Ray Combs was on and though he was nice, he had to do the ‘I’m so funny’ bit too. Is it really necessary? Bob Barker was never like that. (he rules!)
Hmmm….I don’t like any of them being that I just don’t like game shows. The only show I ever claim to watching was the old Password. Who was that host? I really could say he was by far, the best. As for all the others, nah…I’ll leave em!

the accents he uses when he READS the words on the cards that someone else researches and writes down for him. hey alex, you aren’t smarter than the contestants if you have the answer in front of you!
I love Alex Trebek. I think he’s kinda hot. For an old smart guy. Pat? Not so much.
I think it’s Sajak. I not sure because I can’t watch Wheel of Fortune without feeling my brains turn to oatmeal. Having WOF follow Jeopardy! is like having the Nightly News downshift abruptly to Entertainment Tonight. No, I take it back, it doesn’t feel like my brain is turning to oatmeal; it feels as if it’s cringing in horror, shrinking within my skull, and scurrying to escape, clawing at the emergency exit in order to slide down my spinal cord like a fireman’s pole.
As for Trebek, he obviously doesn’t know all the answers but he still comes across as a relatively on-the-ball guy. Gets carried away with his foreign pronunciations though. And, yes CyWyGy, he definitely needs to regrow that moustache.
Maybe a monocle too.
Alex Trebek doesn’t bother me a bit, but Pat Sajak has always rubbed me the wrong way. He totally gets on my nerves every time he opens him mouth. I can’t even put my finger on what the problem is exactly. I just can’t stand him.
I totally remember the shopping on Wheel Of Fortune.
Take that Curlywurlyfamily. 
Trebek is much more annoying, but has the better game and so you are forced to tolerate him.
Sajak doesn’t talk as much so he grates on your nerves less often, but the game is so bad it is unwatchable.
I love this post because we watch both shows almost every evening as we do the kitchen-clean and kid-bedtime routines. I am a big fan of Jeopardy but I SO agree with you…Trebek can be a condescending MOFO.
Pat Sajak annoys the crap out of me. Every time I watch them walk out, I wonder about Pat and Vanna’s past. Uh-huh, you know what I’m saying. I DO remember the spotted dalmatian and the shopping. That was so much fun. I don’t like the “speed rounds” or whatever you call them on the WoF of today.

Right now, Sajak is thinking every night “Oh, screw it. I’m making a regular paycheck.” He seems to know this is a crappy gig, but he’s stuck.
I don’t watch either but think they are both a bit obnoxious.

I honestly think that wheel of fortune have just been getting worse and worse. The ONLY prizes you can win now is either: money, a car, of a trip. I think the best time in the show’s histoy was when Vanna would turn the letters, and in the bonus round, you would pick one of the five prizes. Now that we got Fios on our TV, I only record the ones on GSN at 12:30.
