*This is a ‘sticky’ post (except on Election Day) and will appear at the top of my blog all week. For daily entries, please scroll down.*
A few months ago, my blogging buddies Lisa and Trish asked if I would be interested in hosting a book tour for their new endeavor, TLC Book Tours. I jumped at the chance to write a book review on my blog and was sent a copy of Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe by Jennie Shortridge.
My ’tour date’ (sounds so official, right?!) is this Friday and to get everybody warmed up, I’m hosting a contest in conjunction with my review. The novel is set in the Pacific Northwest with much of the plot developing in a coffee house.
With that in mind, I’m posing a simple question: What do you order at a coffee house and which coffee shop do you prefer? Simply leave a comment* with your drink of choice and favorite shop (if it’s an indie shop, leave the town too!) and I’ll pick a winner on Friday at 9pm EST.
The winner will receive a $15 gift card to Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, or the independent coffee shop of his or her choice** AND a copy of Jennie Shortridge’s Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe.
Don’t forget to stop by on Friday to read my review and see if you’re the lucky winner!
*Please include an email with your comment.
**Independent shop must be able to provide a gift card or certificate.

Coffee and I don’t get along too well, so I normally order a yummy hot chocolate! My location of choice is none other than The Frothy Monkey in Nashville, TN!
cwg says: i’m with you emily…i don’t drink caw-fee (as we say in new jersey) or tea. i’m a hot cocoa girl myself…
Decaf americano, no cream, a packet of Splenda. I get a 12-oz or 16-oz cup at least once daily from either Starbucks or Stumptown in Portland, OR.
My favorite it a Pumpkin Spice latte from Starbucks. I know it is seasonal but it is my all time favorite. Otherwise it is just plain vanilla.
I love carmel lattes from Dunkin Donuts. Nice giveaway. Looking forward to the review.
You have the best contests and you are just the best…unfortunately I am not a coffee drinker! Hot chocolate or herbal tea is my drink of choice (at home) so could you just send the $15 to me????????? hehehehehee
cwg says: wellll..you could just come out and support my first-ever book review on friday and get in the running for a free book!!!
What a grand contest idea! Love it.
My coffee drink of choice is a skim almond latte. Sadly, Starbucks decided to narrow their syrup offering and axed the almond. That leaves Panera as the sole provider on my side of town. (If I must have Starbucks, I go all out and order a skim, no whip, hazelnut mocha—it’s good, but I can’t have that very often due to the buzz and the calories!)
I sure wish we had such a place called The Frothy Monkey here in central Illinois. The name alone makes me happy.
cwg says: yes, the frothy monkey is hi-larious, right? my local shops are the beanery and planet coffee. sorry about starbux 86ing the almond syrup…
True, I am always in the market for another book!!!!
In keeping with my air of mystery, I won’t reveal the shop but I will tell you that I buy my beans (when I can afford them) from a proprietress named Lucretia.
I don’t speak coffeese or starbuckian or whatever it’s called, so I know nothing about talls or skinnies. I take my coffee black and my espressos doubled or trebled.
cwg says: i always annoy the starbuckians by ordering a ‘large’ hot chocolate instead of the venti or grande or tall-o. hahaha. what a rebel, right?
I pretty much live at Waves Coffee on Richards Street here in Vancouver. I always have a London Fog and a rice krispy square.
Also, I want to read that book! Is it available online for purchase? (I can’t resist the title – so if I don’t win, I still want to read it anyway).
cwg says: london fog? i love it!!!! as for the book…yes…it’s available through all the big stores and websites…and indie stores too.
We have a fabbulous coffee shop here in West Philly called The Green Line. I hate coffee though, so I order a root beer. They also have great bagels – and CHEAP. I look forward to reading all about this new book, Curl. If I win I will take whatever I get. John loves coffee. A+
@Rambleicious: then how do you feel about Landscape Painted With Tea, by Milorad Pavic (originally written in Serbo-Croatian)? It’s been on my shelf for years and I’m very intrigued and pre-enamored of it yet somehow have not yet managed read it. Hate when that happens.
BIG. BLACK. If I win, I’m buying a Box O’ Joe from the local Dunkin Dognuts…
Looking forward to the book review. I drink iced coffee from McDonald’s or Dunkin Donuts.
Came over from TLC and love the contest idea! I’m a big coffee drinker and love Starbucks! I’ll be back Fiday for the review!!!
I always order either a short double or triple tall nonfat latte. I do it strictly for the caffeine injection–I live in the dark land of Seattle where it’s difficult to stay awake 9 months of the year! And my favorite coffee shops, by city, are:
Ladro in Seattle
Stumptown in Portland
Devils Food in Denver (a cafe as well, but the BEST coffee)
Thanks for running the contest, even though I can’t win!
Great idea, I always read in my favorite coffee shop. I’m in Boulder, so it has to be Trident (the first and still the best). I like sitting in the old wooden chairs with either a straight cup of coffee (in the morning) or some of their nice high-end teas (in the afternoon).
Strawberries and Cream frap from Starbucks. Yum yum. I live in Texas, but I want to read anything that is set in the awesome Pacific NW!!! You know it!
Oh, dear, so many great coffee shops to choose from. My favorite cup of coffee in all of NYC is definitely the Cafe Con Leche in a to go cup from La Taza De Oro on 8th ave (Puerto Rican). But it isn’t the kind of place you can sit and lazily sip a coffee and read a book, so I’ll also include SweetHeart Bakery (also on 8th Ave, though temporarily closed for renovations) because not only can you sit and enjoy a perfectly made Latte, you also find out all the neighborhood gossip because all the old men come in here for lunch around 10-11am, and seriously, the old men have the good gossip.
My drink of choice is, without a doubt, the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks — I pretty much had a meltdown when it suddenly reappeared on the menu in September! I’m also a huge fan of the white maple mocha at Seattle’s Best Coffee, though.
I’d love to be entered in the contest!
Thank you!

I’m a fan of a few local coffee shops, including Starbucks. I’m a hot chocolate drinker too. I’m going to read your book review next. Thanks for the contest!
I’m not a coffee or black tea drinker either, so my favourite is a teapot of hot chocolate infused with mint herbal tea as made at the Cha-Noir tea shop in Montreal. A real treat and probably the closest I’m going to get to Vianne’s hot chocolate (from the book Chocolat).
I’d love to win this book, thanks for the contest!

Definitely have to get the Pumpkin Pie Spice latte from Starbucks at this time of year. There is a drive through coffee shop nearby that makes a pumpkin pie mocha that is divine too!
